Rapper Big Boi, of the rap duo Outkast, joined ESPN radio’s Dan LeBetard and spilled the beans on how this all went down. Big Boi admitted that OutKast was once asked to perform during halftime at the Super Bowl, but declined the offer. What could possibly lead one to turn down such a major offer? Well according to Big Boi, Outkast could only perform under the condition that they shorten their songs “Hey Ya” and “The Way you Move,” and his partner Andre 3000 just wasn’t having it. “He didn’t want to cut the songs, he wanted to do the full songs. It was like, ‘Nah, can’t do it,'” Big Boi said.
Details suspect that the Super Bowl in reference was in 2004. Outkast’s album “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below” had just released months prior and well, “Hey Ya” and “the Way You Move” were smash hits, both hitting #1 on the Billboard charts.
