Big Sean recently opened up about a deeply personal experience on the podcast On Purpose with Jay Shetty.
While promoting his book Go Higher: Five Practices for Purpose, Success, and Inner Peace, Sean shared his journey of coping with grief, including a miscarriage he experienced with his partner, Jhene Aiko.
Speaking from his perspective as a man, he acknowledged the emotional weight of the experience, emphasizing the importance of self-worth during such a difficult time.
“You are worthy,” he said. “I do not want people to think that because they have a miscarriage, they are inadequate or broken. Life is complex, and there is beauty in what is meant for you.”
Big Sean also reflected on the importance of letting go of control when life does not go as planned. He shared, “Sometimes we get so set on a goal, we close the rest of the doors. But the universe has a way of blessing us even greater than we imagined.”
He then encouraged listeners to process their grief but not let it take over their lives, “Go through it, express yourself, deal with that grief, but do not let it consume you. Sometimes you have to go through it just to get to it.”
Sean first spoke publicly about the miscarriage in his 2020 track Big Reverence. Despite the heartbreak, he and Jhene continued to build their life together.
The couple, who began dating in 2016, announced the birth of their son, Noah Hasani, in November 2022.
Through his words, Sean hopes to inspire others to find strength and hope in the face of loss, reminding them that healing is a journey.
