Bill Cosby, who is facing charges of aggravated indecent assault in Pennsylvania for allegedly raping former Temple University employee Andrea Constand in 2004, has his hands full and does not have time to deal with his defamation case against Beverly Johnson. For that reason, he has dropped the suit.
“The case has been voluntarily dismissed at this time due to the pendency of the criminal proceedings in Montgomery County, PA, which impede Mr. Cosby’s ability to fully participate in litigating the civil case against Ms. Johnson. We fully expect to re-file the complaint against her prior to the expiration of the statute of limitations,” his rep tells ABC News.Â
Cosby filed the suit in December, claiming that Johnson made “false, malicious, opportunistic and defamatory accusations” when she accused him of drugging her in the mid-80’s.Â
Cosby has had one defamation case against him dismissed, and still has to battle the defamation suit brought against him by a half-dozen other accusers. With the criminal case being far more important than a bunch of civil suits, I can see why he would want to focus.Â
