Philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates revealed he was shocked by all the “crazy” and “evil” conspiracy theories about him spreading on the internet during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Reuters, Gates said he wants to explore what is behind the conspiracy theories. He speculated that the conspiracies about him and Dr. Anthony Fauci had likely taken hold in part due to a combination of the frightening spread of the pandemic and the popularity of social media. Gates admitted that he was very surprised by the conspiracies and hopes that they will go away.
“Nobody would have predicted that I and Dr. Fauci would be so prominent in these really evil theories,” Gates said.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic started a year ago, Gates has been featured in a number of conspiracies, that have spread misinformation about the coronavirus, its origins, and the motives behind those who are working to fight the virus’ spread.
One theory claimed that Dr. Fauci and Gates created the pandemic as a way to control people, and implied that they want to profit from the virus’ spread and that vaccines were a way to insert trackable microchips into people.
“We’re really going to have to get educated about this over the next year and understand…how does it change people’s behavior and how should we have minimized this?” Gates said in the interview.
