The “Real Time” host is keeping it real. Bill Maher is making us feel guilty about something wasteful to the Earth, online shopping.
“Online shopping is killing us, psychologically and environmentally.” Maher believes people need to make shopping in person a thing again and start going to the mall.
In his late-night show, he mentioned why online shopping never became popular until this century, even though the Sears catalog was popular back in the 1800s. It was a way to order something through a book and deliver it. Though it’s safe to assume that transportation wasn’t that available then, and the news didn’t spread quickly enough due to lack of technology.
But now, he’s comparing why everyone feels so alone and why the pandemic worsened because people were not going out. He then called on Americans to make America great again by returning to the malls, calling them the “center of society.”
“Turns out that ordering online is way more eco-friendly than driving to the store ever was,” Maher said. Then he turned to a visual showing how ordering multiple clothes and wasting the boxes versus going in-store to try on clothes and leave with one bag contributes to Earth’s downfall.
The boxes go somewhere, and it’s not the trash; it’s the landfills and the oceans.
