Bills Safety Damar Hamlin Released From the Hospital One Week After Cardiac Arrest

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin was released Monday from an Ohio hospital, one week after going into cardiac arrest during a Monday Night Football game.

“Mr. Hamlin has been released and returned to Buffalo. I traveled with him to the airport this morning with our UC Health air care and mobile care crew, including teammates who were with us on the field when Mr. Hamlin collapsed,” said Dr. William Knight IV, a professor of emergency medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and director of the Emergency Medicine MLP Program.

Hamlin was transferred to a hospital in Buffalo, where he’ll continue to be monitored.

“He is doing well and this is the beginning of the next stage of his recovery,” Knight said. “It is entirely too premature to discuss, not only his football; it’s that we’re really focused on his day-to-day recovery.”

The 24-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed after tacking Bengals receiver Tee Higgins during a January 2 game. On-field medical staff rushed to administer CPR to Hamlin before he was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he made gradual progress throughout the week.
The NFL star received an outpour of support from NFL players, fans and others across the country. On Sunday, he posted of himself on Instagram from his hospital bed, making a heart sign with his hands while wearing a “Love for Damar” shirt.
