Sammy Watkins of the Buffalo Bills has opted to take a trip to the casino over the team’s voluntary practices.
The wide receiver shared a picture via Facebook from Harrah’s Cherokee Casino in North Carolina. In the pic he showed off around $6,500 in poker chips. This same casino is currently hosting a World Series of Poker, and happens to be at the same time as the Buffalo Bills’ voluntary practices.
Even though these practices are “voluntary,” anyone familiar with professional sports knows that’s not really true, and that voluntary is often synonymous with mandatory. So will Watkins be in trouble with his team?
According to Coach Rex Ryan, it’s unlikely since he isn’t the only one who didn’t show. Coach Said Monday “I know we had a great turnout for [the] voluntary deal; we weren’t 100-percent for attendance, but a couple of guys gave me phone calls, all that stuff…“. He maintained his ambiguity with very little details, going on to say “I won’t get into specifics on who was here and who wasn’t here because it is voluntary, but I’m encouraged by the turnout we have and everybody’s, I think, excited to get this season going”
When asked specifically about Watkins and his lack of attendance, coach ryan promptly responded with: ” I said I wasn’t going to talk about anybody being here or not being here.”
Watkins has yet to comment, but do you think it was really a big deal?
