A U.S. tech company reveals the world’s first “smart gun.”
Biofire Technologies has recently introduced a new 9mm handgun. The firearm is equipped with advanced security features such as fingerprint and 3D infrared facial recognition. The new firearm is capable of functioning effectively even when users are wearing gloves or facial coverings.
In addition, the gun is designed with customizable LED indicators to indicate its armed status. It also has an automatic lock feature that engages when it is not in use.
Biofire has kept the consumers in mind when it comes to privacy. The gun utilizes biometric data that stays within the firearm and does not transmit through WiFi, Bluetooth, or GPS.
Additionally, the grip contains integrated IR sensors that detect when an authorized user is holding the firearm. This ensures that the gun remains armed without requiring the user to repeatedly authenticate their biometrics.
According to Biofire, the $1, 499 firearm was created for users to defend themselves without the worry of misuse and preventing unauthorized access. The gun is equipped with a high-endurance lithium-ion battery that is rechargeable and removable. With regular use, the battery can last for several months and can continuously fire for several hours on a single charge.
In addition, the smart gun is also highly customizable, with the option to choose from 64 different combinations of colors for the polymer, trigger, and magazine release.
Pre-orders for the firearm is available but requires a refundable deposit of $149. The company estimates that orders will be fulfilled in early 2024, with deliveries coming through the standard legal ATF transfer process required for all traditional firearms.
