On this day we would like to wish a very happy 10th birthday to Ja Rule!!! Yes, you read that right, Ja Rule officially turns 10 years old. You see, the NY rapper was born on February 29, 1976. He is one of the few, special people to be born on a leap year. This means, if we want to be technical, Ja Rule’s birthday has really only rolled around 10 times in his life. He shares this cool birthday with about 5 million people worldwide.
To celebrate, here are some more leap year facts.Â
1. Why do we have leap years: We have leap days/years to keep our calendars on track with the Earth’s revolutions around the sun. The earth revolves around the sun every 365 days and six hours. So every four years we accumulate an extra day. Without that extra day, our year and seasons would eventually be completely out of whack.
2. What are the odds of being born on a leap year:Â 1 in 1,461, according to the Honor Society of Leap Year Babies.Â
3. What do you call someone born on a leap day: a “leaper” or a “leapling”
4. When was the last leap year: 2012
5. Who was the first to put leap year on the calendar: Julius Caesar in 46 BC, but his calendar had any year divisible by four be a leap year. Which mathwise was completely wrong. It was finally fixed nearly 1,500 years later, when Pope Gregory XIII introduced his Gregorian calendar.
6. When do leapers celebrate their birthday on non-leap years: March 1
7. Any other famous leapers: Actor Jessie Usher, who plays the stepson of Will Smith’s character in the upcoming movie “Indepedence Day: Resurgence,” was born in 1992. He’s only 6. Saul Williams, Â poet and rapper and model Antonio Sabato Jr. to name a few.
