Last year, 18-year-old Jason Goolsby was violently tackled and detained for making a white woman feel “uncomfortable.”
Apparently, the Howard University student was standing outside of a local ATM, when a couple walked up to the door. While Goolsby was still trying to figure out whether or not he was going to use it, he opened the door for couple, made a decision and went inside.
While, waiting in line to use the cash machine, Goolsby noticed the woman exit abruptly without completing her transaction. Afterwards, as the teen headed towards a local bus stop, several police officers approached him with their guns and pepper spray drawn. Scared out of his mind, Goolsby made a run for it, which led to his arrest.
Come to find out, the woman said she felt uncomfortable, while Goolsby and his brother stood behind her at a local ATM. Apparently, she thought the two boys were going to rob her, so she called the police.
One year later, Goolsby is suing the city. In an effort to hold the officers accountable for their wrong doing, Goolsby is looking for compensation. The teen is suing on charges of failing to prevent false imprisonment, assault and battery, reports state. Apparently, he is asking for $1 million in compensatory damages and $10 million in punitive damages.
