A young Black woman tricked Republicans into donating more than $100,000 to her college fees after posing as a #TrumpSupporter. On Oct. 27, a woman named Quran who goes by the Twitter handle chickpeas wrote a tweet claiming to be a devout Trump supporter who is tired of hiding her republican views. She tweeted, “I will not hide any longer, the left has made us feel as if us black republicans should hide!! But not anymore!! #BlacksForTrump #WalkAway #maga.”Quran added a photo of her in a red bucket hat read the famous “Make America Great Again” slogan.
Soon her tweet went viral, which led to her parents disowning her and kicking her out their home. Quran’ parents also refused to pay the remainder of her college tuition. She tweeted, “I’m now getting kicked out. My mother literally woke me up out my sleep and screamed at me “how could you support this monster” she doesn’t even know him so how can he be a monster. I just wish they understood.” To make her story more believable, she added screenshots of the conversation with her parents.
With no money to pay off her college debt, Quran created a GoFundMe on Nov.1 and asked her republicans fans for financial support. “[I]f you can find it in your hearts to help this young, black republican pay for school it would be appreciated ??,” she tweeted. According to later tweet,s the woman raised enough money for a new iPhone XS Max, tuition and 17 iPhones. But the gag was on the Trump supporters because less than three hours later the college student revealed that it was all lies.
“Trump is a racist, homophobic, transphobic, bigot AND YOU THINK MY BLACK ASS WOULD SUPPORT THAT ROTTING CARROT?? Ridiculous. Any black person can put on that ugly ass hat and say #MAGA and yall will instantly be up their ass cuz you wanna prove so hard you’re not racist,” Quran tweeted. Rumors started circulating that Quran had raised about $150,000, but it was actually close to $200, which she ended up refunding. “That’s the thing though: I didn’t,” she confessed on the phone to New York Magazine. “I just felt really weird about taking their money. This could go south really fast, I just decided to refund everyone and give their money back. I think it was like maybe $200 at that point.”
Nevertheless, Quran now goes down as being one of the best scammers of our time – and that is enough of an award she claims. “I just honestly didn’t want to take their money. Yeah, I can’t pay for school but I don’t want Republican money to pay for it,” she laughed. “I just want everyone to think I’m the finesse queen, which I am.”
