The name Oluwatoyin “Toyin” Salau began trending on Twitter Monday morning as hundreds of thousands of tweets mourned the Black Lives Matter activist.
Police and family confirmed her death Monday morning, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.
Salau was one of two victims that were found Saturday night off of Monday road in Tallahassee, Florida. The other victim has been identified as 75-year-old Victoria “Vicki” Sims. Salau and Sims had both been reported missing.
Aaron Glee Jr., 49, was identified by police as a suspect in the case, who lived on Monday Road, according to the publication. He was arrested back on May 30 on a charge of aggravated battery causing bodily harm, and on June 9, he was arrested for battery. However, neither Salau nor Sims was the victim in those cases.
Salau, only 19-years-old, went missing in Tallahassee on June 6 shortly after tweeting that she had been sexually assaulted.
“Anyways, I was molested in Tallahassee, Florida, by a black man this morning at 5:30on Richview and Park Ave. The man offered to give me a ride to find someplace to sleep and recollect my belongings from a church I refuged to a couple days back to escape unjust living conditions.”
“There is no justice that can be served that will replace my sister’s life,” Toyin’s brother, Oluwaseyi Salau said.
According to jail records, Glee is being held on felony murder and kidnapping charges. He was arrested on June 14 in Toyin’s case.
