If you ever needed a reason to support black-owned brands, the time would be now. But what’s more, is finding out a black-owned brand you can spend your money on actually donates a percentage of your money to charity.

One DNA

One DNA is a black and queer-owned clothing brand with neutral genderless pieces meant to “break down the boundary between womenswear and menswear without sacrificing style.” The black-owned clothing brand regularly donates to charity from it’s most popular items. To be specific, 10% of the profits from Women Are Powerful are donated to the National Women’s Law Center, which advocates for women and girls.

Founded by supermodel Liya Kebede, the black-owned brand makes women’s resort wear and employs artisans in Ethiopia. Five percent of all sales online go to the lemlem foundation, which provides better access to healthcare, job opportunities, and responsible production in Africa and eliminates poverty.

Phenomonal

The black-owned brand was actually founded b vice president Kamala Harris’ niece, Meena Harris. The “Phenomenally Black” t-shirts spread across social media and gained celebrity popularity after the brutal murder of George Floyd. The t-shirts were initially created to recognize Black Women’s Equal Pay Day and have seen a resurgence in the tees. The proceeds went to Black Lives Matter.

The luxury South African brand offers “ready-to-wear” collections for women. The brand has a program called Extracurricular which is “a space for accessible fashion projects that speak to the global conversation and build community. A percentage of proceeds from Extracurricular are marked for donation to a pre-selected cause each season.”
