According to NY Daily News, 14-year-old Brennan Walker was on his way to Rochester High School in Rochester Hills, Michigan when the incident occurred. That morning, he had overslept, missed the school bus and didn’t even have his cell-phone because his mother had previously taken it away.

As a result, Walker approached a local resident for directions, but instead, he was met with a shotgun and bullets fired his way.

“I knocked on the door, stepped back, knocked, stepped back and then a lady came downstairs yelling at me,” Brennan told Click on Detroit. “She asked me, ‘Why are you trying to break into my house?’ and I told her, ‘No, I was just looking for directions to Rochester High.”

Next thing Walker knew, a man came downstairs with a gun, which prompted him to take off running.

“I turned back and saw him aiming at me,” Walker continued.

At least one shot was fired off at Walker, after the safety was taken off the gun, meanwhile, Walker kept running until he found a place to hide. Since then, the suspect has been taken into custody and both Walker and his mother have watched the security footage of the incident.

“One of the things that stands out, that probably angers me the most is, while I was watching the tape, you can hear the wife say, ‘Why did ‘these people’ choose my house?” Walker’s mother said. “Who are, ‘these people?’ And that set me off. I didn’t want to believe it was what it appeared to look like. When I heard her say that, it was like, but it is [what it looks like.”

As for Walker, he received the lesson of his life after the incident, but thankfully, he was not hit.

“My mom says that black boys get shot because sometimes they don’t look their age, and I don’t look my age,” Walker said. “I’m 14, but I don’t look 14. I’m kinda happy that, like, I didn’t become a statistic.”
