Memphis rapper BlocBoy JB has landed in hot water after an incident at a stoplight left him facing multiple charges. Tuesday reports from the Memphis Police Department revealed that the “Look Alive” artist was found passed out behind the wheel of his SUV while blocking traffic, with a gun and drugs in plain sight.
The situation unfolded when a state trooper spotted BlocBoy’s red Mazda SUV sitting at a stoplight for two full traffic signal cycles. Suspecting something was wrong, the trooper approached the vehicle and found the rapper slumped over, unconscious, with his foot still pressing the brake while the car was in drive mode.
Authorities reportedly also found a black Glock 9mm pistol loaded with 18 rounds sitting on his lap. Additionally, a bag containing about 12.4 grams of marijuana was located next to the firearm. BlocBoy’s vehicle was blocking northbound traffic.
After he was awakened, the 27-year-old rapper was arrested and charged with several offenses, including obstruction of a highway, driving with a revoked license, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and simple marijuana possession. The court documents obtained by Fox 13 Memphis confirmed the charges. BlocBoy JB was taken into custody and booked into the Shelby County Jail on a $7,500 bond.
The rapper posted bond and was released from jail. However, his legal troubles seem far from over. BlocBoy already has a DUI conviction from 2018 that resulted in his license being revoked, along with a marijuana conviction from 2020.
BlocBoy JB, whose real name is James Lee Baker, rose to fame after his 2018 hit “Look Alive” featuring Drake, but his recent run-ins with the law could potentially derail his career.
