Blue Ivy-Carter was in her bag during the 2022 Wearable Art Gala in Los Angeles over the weekend.
The young Carter followed in the footsteps of her famous parents, indulging in the finer things by bidding over $80,000 on a pair of Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings. Her glamorous grandmother, Tina Knowles-Lawson, wore the earrings to the event, and her mother, Beyonce-Knowles Carter herself, once owned them. Eventually, the 10-year-old was outbid by Melvin Rodriguez, the husband of Mielle Organic founder Monique Rodriguez. The winning bid was $105,000, with Monique sharing the joyful moment on her Instagram.
Blue is no stranger to bidding wars with some of the world’s upper echelons. In 2018, at only six years old, Blue went head to head with producer, writer, and actor Tyler Perry for an acrylic painting of Sidney Poitier. The “Brown Skin Girls” singer bid $17,000 and upped it to $19,000 before Perry offered a winning $20,000 for the artwork.
Aside from the auction, this year’s Wearable Art Gala honored several Black figures who continue to push the culture forward. This includes Angela Bassett, who was awarded the Film & TV Icon Award, and visual artist Mark Bradford, who was honored with the Art Icon Award. Musical tributes from Chloe & Halle and Andra Day entertained the crowd while Keke Palmer served as host and Star Jones was on art auctioneer duties
