Blue Ivy is already making her mark in the music industry as she is now an award-winning songwriter.
The 7-year-old couldn’t do anything but be a star with two legends, #Beyonce and #JayZ, as her parents. Blue’s contributions to her mother’s song featuring #SAINtJHN and #WizKid, “Brown Skin Girl,” won the Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award at the 2019 BET Soul Train Awards on Sunday.
Bey and Jay are also credited as writers on the song, which appeared on the “The Lion King: The Gift album.” In addition to her writing skills, Blue also gifted audiences with her own vocals. “Brown skin girl, your skin just like pearls,” she sings at the beginning and end of the song. “The best thing in the world, never trade you for anybody else.”
Beyoncé expressed how important it was for her family to be a part of the creation of The Gift. “Knowing where you come from, that’s what I want for my children,” she said of bringing all three kids to Africa during her ABC special, “Beyoncé Presents: Making the Gift.” She added, “It feels like I’m making peace with a part of me that’s yearning for my ancestral connection.”
In July, Blue landed on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time when the song debuted at No. 76. On the Billboard Top 200 chart, ”The Lion King: The Gift” hit at No. 2. She also co-starred with her mother in the “Spirit” music video, E! News reports.
Blue is getting that green, okay?!
