In the new Biography: Bobby Brown, a two-part documentary that premiered on A&E Monday, Brown revealed the time when Whitney Houston made the first move at the Soul Train Awards in 1989.
During Part 1 of the doc, Brown recounted feeling pleased that night after being recognized for the first time for his solo career and then walking backstage only to be pounced on by the singing icon herself.
“I remember that night like it was yesterday,” Brown shared, saying that he fell in love that night.
Brown said it was after he performed “My Prerogative” that “Whitney walked up and was bumping me. She just kept bumping me,” he said. “I turned around, and said, ‘You know you keep bumping me.’ She said, ‘I know.'”
“From there, it was just love at first sight,” he continued. “Something about her eyes made me melt inside. I said, ‘If I ask you on a date, would you say yes?’ She said, ‘Of course.'”
The duo didn’t waste any time and went on their first date the next day, enjoying shopping in Beverly Hills, dinner at The Ivy, and then “just chilling” for the rest of the evening.
Brown and Houston married in 1992 and were married for 14 years before legally divorcing in 2007. Whitney then tragically passed away in 2012.
Remember to watch Part 1 of Biography: Bobby Brown on A&E and tune in to Part 2 on Tuesday, May 31 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
