In a recent interview on “Club Shay Shay,” the R&B legend revealed that the late Irv Gotti paid him $1 million to appear in Ja Rule’s 2002 video for “Thug Lovin’.” Reflecting on Gotti’s legacy following his passing in February from a stroke, Brown shared his deep respect for the music executive’s generosity and vision.
“Irv was a special cat,” Brown said. “He loved seeing people successful. He loved that. He loved making sure that you got your just due, you got paid.”
Brown detailed the memorable shoot, which opens with him and Ja Rule arriving by helicopter before heading into a club. Despite the lavish production, the scene nearly pushed Brown to his limit.
“I think for the video ‘Thug Lovin,’ I got paid like one million to shoot it,” he said. “And the top of that building, coming off that helicopter was the scariest s**t ever in my life because I’m so afraid of heights.”
Battling fear and harsh weather, Brown knew he only had one shot.
“It was just like, I don’t think I can do this. And the wind was blowing, and it was just all kinds of things going on, and I was just like, I have to nail this first take because I don’t wanna do it again. So I nailed the first take, and I was out!”
