Bond Reduced For Ex-Officer Charged In Relation To Breonna Taylor Raid

The lone police officer charged in the fatal Breonna Taylor police raid has now had his bond reduced.

Former Louisville Metro Police Department officer Brett Hankison had his bond slashed from $15,000 to $7,500 on Thursday after asking to receive half of his bail money back to help cover his legal fees last month.

Hankison is not facing charges for Taylor’s murder. Instead, he has been charged with three counts of wanton endangerment for recklessly shooting into Taylor’s neighbor’s home. No one in the neighbor’s apartment was injured. None of the officers who stormed the young EMT’s home on a no-knock order in March 2020 have been charged with her death. Breonna Taylor was shot six times.

In February, Hankison’s attorney, Stew Mathews, filed a motion to have his trial moved to a different city due to the media frenzy surrounding the case since day one. Mathews believes that a jury in Louisville would be “irreparably prejudiced and biased,” preventing a fair trial. Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge Ann Bailey Smith denied the motion, ruling that the trial will move forward in Louisville, beginning on February 1st, 2022.
