Undefeated Boxer Billy Joe Saunders Suspended From Sport After Encouraging Men To Hit Women In Clip Uploaded To Social Media

According to TMZ, undefeated boxer, Billy Joe Saunders’ boxing license has been suspended after a clip uploaded to social media showed him encouraging men to physically assault women.

“I just wanted to make a little video for all you dads, husbands, if you’ve got girlfriends etcetera,” Saunders said in the clip. “Obviously, this COVID-19 is getting very serious, and we are isolated away in tight spaces. If your old woman is giving you a little bit of mouth and you try to be patient, you try to be calm, cool, but after the 7th day or 6th day, you’re just about to explode.”

He continued to give a walkthrough of a scenario as he proceeded to hit a punching bag, pretending it’s a female.

While Saunders claims he posted the video as a joke, the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBOC) has released a statement in regards to the not so funny clip.

“The British Boxing Board of Control having considered comments made by Billy Joe Saunders on social media have suspended his boxer’s license pending a hearing under the Board’s misconduct regulation, at a time and venue to be confirmed as soon as possible.” the organization explained.

Saunders, 30, has since attempted to apologize a couple times on Twitter, writing, “I would never condone domestic violence, and if I saw a man touch a woman I would smash him to pieces myself I have a Daughter and if a man laid a finger on her, it wouldn’t end well . Apologies if I offended any women stay blessed x.”

He also criticized the media, writing, “That’s what the media and social media is out to get headlines fucking idiots,” in response to broadcaster Jeremy Clarkson defending himself in a Tweet due to the media misconstruing his words.

In the meantime, Boxer Claressa Shields has uploaded a clip in response giving some advice of her own.“Video for all the women in abusive relationships,” she captioned her video on Twitter. “This a tutorial on what to do when your boyfriend, husband, or any man tries to put his hands on you! #DefenseMechanism ! Thank me later.”

“Hit them as hard as you can in the nuts,” Shields said in the video.

Saunders (29-0)  responded to Shields’ clip with hand-clapping emojis.

Saunders, who has posted controversial videos before, was supposed to be fighting Canelo Alvarez in May, however, with the current status of the coronavirus outbreak and his boxing license being suspended, that fight isn’t looking likely.
