#BoycottPublix was trending on Twitter much of Monday after it was revealed that a founding family member donated $300,000 to the Donald Trump rally that became the deadly Capitol riot.
Publix was founded by the prestigious Jenkins family in Florida in the 1930s and has around 225,000 employees to date. The family is now worth $8.8bn, according to Forbes. While they have built a company based on strong customer service and family-friendliness, they have constantly donated to many Republican causes. Publix heiress Julie Jenkins Fancelli, daughter of the late company founder George Jenkins, donated $2 million to the Republican National Committee and Donald Trump’s re-election campaign.
In a brief statement on January 30th, Publix attempted to distance themselves from Fancelli, though the damage was already done.
Now, social media calls for the popular grocery chain to be canceled for its role in the deadly Capitol riot that resulted in five deaths, including a Capitol police officer.
After a member of Publix’s founding family donated $300,000 to Trump's rally that preceded the deadly Capitol attack and family member Julie Jenkins Fancelli gave $2 million to the RNC and Trump campaign overall, many customers are leaving. #BOYCOTTPUBLIX https://t.co/5P3cet3ym7
