Brad Pitt’s representatives have issued a public reminder that the actor does not have any social media presence following reports of a French woman being scammed out of over $800,000 by someone impersonating the Hollywood star.
“It’s awful that scammers take advantage of fans’ strong connection with celebrities, but this is an important reminder to not respond to unsolicited online outreach, especially from actors who have no social media presence,” a spokesperson for Pitt, 61, said in a statement.
The incident, reported by The Times and French outlets AFP and BFM TV, involved a woman identified only as Anne. She told French television outlet TF1 that she was initially contacted by someone claiming to be Pitt’s mother, with messages suggesting, “It’s a woman like you that my son needs.”
Although skeptical at first, Anne eventually sent money after the scammer, posing as Pitt, claimed he was battling kidney cancer and needed financial help. The scammers even used AI-generated images of Pitt’s face superimposed onto men in hospital beds to lend credibility to their story.
Anne reportedly became suspicious after reading about Pitt’s relationship with Ines de Ramon, prompting the scammers to deny the reports. Once she realized the truth, Anne filed a lawsuit, leading to a police investigation.
TF1 has since removed Anne’s interview from its website to shield her from online harassment, citing concerns for her safety.
This is not the first instance of scammers using Pitt’s identity to defraud fans. In September 2024, Pitt’s representatives issued a similar warning after Spanish authorities arrested five people accused of running a “criminal organization” that scammed two women out of over $350,000 by impersonating the actor and promising romantic relationships.
Pitt’s team continues to stress that the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actor has no presence on social media, urging fans to remain cautious and avoid unsolicited messages from anyone claiming to be him.
Brad Pitt is currently gearing up for his next big-screen appearance in the racing film F1, set to release in theaters on June 27, 2025.
