There has been months of speculation as wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk entered the last year of his contract regarding his interest in staying with the 49ers. It seems today, a few weeks before training camp, he has made a decision by requesting a trade in the last year of his contract.
In the final year of his five-year rookie contract, Aiyuk is set to make $14.12 million. Asking for a trade this close to training camp is a strategic move. If the Niners don’t find a suitor quickly, it’s pretty much a foregone conclusion that the 26-year-old receiver from Nevada will sit out training camp.
In the 2023-2024 season, Aiyuk caught 75 of the 105 targets he received, totaling 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns, making him one of the most consistent receivers on the roster.
I’m told within the last couple of weeks the #Patriots reached out to the #49ers inquiring about WR Brandon Aiyuk again and were told the talented wide receiver was not being traded at the time, per source. pic.twitter.com/QhSmCBm7fW
