In a somber but pointed Instagram Reel, the R&B legend took aim at his brother Claude McKnight and ex-wife Julie McKnight, accusing them of mishandling Niko’s final moments.
“A big big thanks to Claude McKnight’s tasteless and self-aggrandizing announcement on TikTok,” Brian said in the voiceover. “It has instead turned into a circus, a mockery of a life now lost.”
Brian went on to reveal that his immediate family held a private memorial for Niko in Maui, choosing to grieve away from the spotlight. He also claimed he offered Niko advanced medical treatment, including access to top oncologists and private in-home care, which was allegedly rejected.
“To the self-proclaimed ‘mama bear,’ may God have mercy on your soul,” he added, directing the comment at Julie.
Meanwhile, Claude McKnight’s TikTok tribute has also sparked reactions online. In his video, Claude remembered Niko as “an amazing singer, guitar player, and photographer,” and shared heartfelt words: “I just want to uplift that young man… I love you, Niko.”
The emotional rift between Brian and parts of his family continues to be felt even in grief, adding another layer to a deeply tragic loss.
