New claims are coming out about the infamous “Brick Lady” days after she was charged with collecting donations for an attack that prosecutors don’t believe took place.
Roda Osman has been charged with committing felony theft by deception. Last September, she went viral after claiming a man hit her with a brick outside of a nightclub. The incident drew a wave of support after Osman shared a video of her swollen face and recounted the story. Soon after, she launched a GoFundMe, which raised over $40,000. However, Keith Houston, the Cybercrimes Chief Prosecutor at the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, says surveillance footage of the alleged assault is much different than what Osman initially stated. According to Houston, the surveillance showed Osman slapping a man, and he hit her back with a wattle bottle, not a brick, as she initially claimed.
“They were able to find video of the defendant and another person who we believe was the accused assaulter. They got into a car, they both got out of the car, and the defendant slapped the male, who then responded by slapping her back. He did have a water bottle in his hand. And we think that’s what left the mark on her, on her face. But it was mutual combat,” Houston explained to Click2Houston.
To make matters worse, the prosecutor claims this is not Osman using an assault story to go viral. In fact, Houston says Osman pulled nearly an identical stunt in Minnesota in 2020. Osman was expected to turn herself on Thursday afternoon. KPRC 2 Houston reporter Bryce Newberry confirmed that she never showed up to surrender to police and is on the run.
