Britney Spears is being accused of hitting her housekeeper, which her lawyer says was exaggerated for the media.
On Monday, the alleged incident occurred when the “Gimme More” singer got into a verbal argument with her housekeeper. The woman reported to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office that Spears slapped her phone out of her hand but said she was not injured.
Britney Spears’ lawyer Mathew S. Rosengart slammed the allegations, stating that the entire ordeal was “overblown.”
“Anyone can make an accusation, but this should have been closed immediately. To its credit, the Sheriff’s office itself has acknowledged that the incident was classified as a “very minor misdemeanor,” Rosengart said in a statement.
This case is just the latest in Spears’ laundry list of legal issues. She is still embroiled in court proceedings over her conservatorship, which her father, Jamie Spears, has long overseen to her dismay.
The district attorney’s office will now have to determine if battery charges will be filed against the 39-year-old. The unidentified housekeeper was not injured.
