After 13 years, Britney Spears conservatorship has come to an end. A source close to the pop star says she called Friday “the best day of her life.”
The 39-year-old’s personal and estate conservatorship was terminated by Judge Brenda Penny, according to PEOPLE. Spears’ temporary conservator John Zabel will maintain administrative powers in her estate and trust. Her personal conservator, Jodi Montgomery, will “be there for anything she needs,” according to Montgomery’s lawyer, Lauriann Wright.
The source told the outlet the singer was so happy “she was crying and laughing at the same time.” Spears marked the decision on social media by posting a picture of her fans celebrating her newfound freedom.
“Good God I love my fans so much it’s crazy !!! I think I’m gonna cry the rest of the day !!!! Best day ever … praise the Lord … can I get an Amen ???? #FreedBritney,” she captioned her Instagram post.

Spears’ own attorney, Mathew Rosengart, called it a “monumental day” for the singer. He referred to Spears as a free woman, noting that this is the first time in more than ten years it’s up to her what happens next.
