Britney Spears’ father has requested that his daughter’s estate cover his legal bills after being removed as her conservator.
Jamie Spears contends that his legal bills should be covered by his daughter’s almost $60 million estate, according to newly filed court documents. In the 21-page petition, he says his lawyer fees should be handled so that the conservatorship can be “wound up quickly and efficiently to allow Britney to take control of her life.”
Britney’s lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, shot back at Jamie, calling his request to have his legal fees paid by her estate an “abomination.” He claims that Jamie had access to millions of Britney’s hard-earned money and paid his lawyer millions as well.
Jamie was Britney’s conservator for nearly 15 years. In those years, the “Gimme More” singer has accused her father of abusing his position and mishandling her career. After the #FreeBritney movement and an ugly court battle, a judge ended the conservatorship in November, after it was first instated in 2008.
Britney’s mother, Lynne Spears, is also looking to have the estate pay her legal fees after she hired her own attorneys in 2019 to assist with removing Jamie from the conservatorship.
The case’s next hearing is scheduled for January 19th.
