It has been revealed that Britney Spears’ father referred to her as “fat,” a “whore” and a “terrible mother” not long after her conservatorship began.
The revelation was unveiled by a close family friend, Jacqueline Butcher, who told The New Yorker that Jamie Spears would also taunt the singer by saying, “I am Britney Spears!”
Butcher explained that she thought the man would offer his daughter help and love following her 2008 admittance into a psych ward for evaluation. However, Butcher says he stunned the family by masterminding complete control of her life.
“What he said was, ‘You’re fat. Daddy’s gonna get you on a diet and a trainer, and you’re gonna get back in shape,’” she told the magazine, which reported the story on Saturday. Butcher went on to reveal that while Jamie was working hard to orchestrate his daughter’s return to the spotlight, he would berate her regularly.
“He would get all in her face, spittle was flying, telling her she was a whore and a terrible mother,” Butcher told the publication for an investigation by Jia Tolentino and Ronan Farrow.
According to Butcher, Jamie would control how and when Britney would see her children, while her mother Lynne stood by aimlessly, telling Britney to “obey” her father, and he would release her from the conservatorship.
Lynne divorced Jamie in 2002 after “years and years of verbal abuse, abandonment, erratic behavior,” according to her 2008 memoir, “Through the Storm.”
In a phone call with the New Yorker, Lynne refused to divulge too many details in the case, stating only that she has “mixed feelings about everything” and does not “know what to think.”
“It’s a lot of pain, a lot of worry. I’m good. I’m good at deflecting,” Lynne added.
The ongoing conservatorship battle has recently played out in the media, forcing the #FreeBritney movement into the spotlight with fans and activists outraged at the strict guidelines placed over Britney Spears’ life for the past 13 years.
