Recently the courts have rejected Britney Spears‘ attempted to remove her father as a conservator of her estate.
For the last 12 years, her father, James ‘Jamie’ Spears, has been able to control all aspects of her life.
This is not the pop stars’ first attempt this year to have him taken off the legal document; in fact, there have been several. However, her father believes that it isn’t safe for her to resume running her own life, career, and financial affairs.
Her lawyer, Samuel D. Ingham III says that Britney will never perform again until her father is removed as the head of her conservatorship.
He said in court: “My client has informed me that she is afraid of her father. She will not perform again if her father is in charge of her career.”
Judge Brenda Penny said she needed more evidence before deciding whether to remove Jamie Spears but said she would consider future appeals.
The order read, “The Court finds that additional evidence by supplemental declaration or additional documentation is required to grant the matter on calendar this date based upon the reading of the moving papers and consideration of all presented evidence.”
Since 2008, her father has been able to dictate where Britney goes, what happens to her money following her mental health breakdown.
Last year he became head of the conservatorship when the co-conservator stepped down. In September of 2019, a temporary conservator was put in place when her father’s health declined.
In court documents obtained by TMZ and US Weekly, it showed that Britney wants the conservatorship title to be transferred to her temporary care manager Jodi Montgomery. The document adds she is ‘strongly opposed to having Jamie return as the conservator of her person.
She also wants to have ‘a qualified corporate fiduciary appointed to serve’ as a sole conservator of her estate like a bank.
Fans have been worried about the star and her free will in the conservatorship and have since started a #FreeBritney movement on social media.
Britney has tried to dissuade people from thinking she was in any form of imprisonment.
Her father also told Page Six that the #FreeBritney movement was stupid.
He said, “All these conspiracy theorists don’t know anything. The world don’t have a clue. It’s up to the court of California to decide what’s best for my daughter. It’s no one else’s business.” He argued, “I have to report every nickel and dime spent to the court every year. How the hell would I steal something?”
He added, “People are being stalked and targeted with death threats. It’s horrible. We don’t want those kinds of fans. I love my daughter. I love all my kids. But this is our business. It’s private.”
