After nearly 14 years, Britney Spears is finally free from her conservatorship.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny terminated Spears’ conservatorship Friday, effective immediately.
“The court finds and determines that the conservatorship of the person and the estate is no longer required therefore effective today…it’s hereby terminated,” Judge Penny said in court Friday afternoon.
The “Oops! I Did It Again” singer is now free from the legal binds of her father and his team calling shots on her career and life. She can now live on her own terms.
Judge Penny’s ruling follows a highly publicized legal battle between Spears and her father who has been overseeing the popstar’s estimated $60 million estate and controlling nearly all of her personal and professional life.
Just this summer Britney spoke out publicly against the conservatorship saying it was abusive while pleading with the court to end it.
“I just want my life back,” Spears said during a virtual court appearance on June 23. “It’s been 13 years. And it’s enough.”
Moments after the conservatorship was terminated, Spears’ fiance Sam Asghari posted the words FREEDOM on his Instagram feed with, “History was made today. Britney is Free!” captioned.
