Iconic pop star Britney Spears was assaulted by the security guard of San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama.
The shocking incident took place Wednesday night as Wembanyama and Spears were both in Las Vegas at the Catch restaurant located inside the Aria Hotel. The “Gimme More” singer and her husband, fitness trainer Sam Asghari, approached the NBA pro in an attempt to get a photograph with him. Spears, reportedly a fan of the rising player, tapped Wembanyama on the shoulder, which prompted his security guard slap her with the force knocking her glasses off.
The guard was identified as Damian Smith, who happens to be the Director of Security for the Spurs. A police report was filed for battery, though Smith maintained he was not trying to harm Spears. Instead, he felt that he was protecting the 2023 No. 1 overall draft pick from who he thought was an overzealous fan.
TMZ has reported that while the Metro Police are investigating, Smith may not face charges. Several sources told the outlet that Smith only pushed Spears’ hand away, but the police report clearly identifies Smith as the one who struck the award-winning performer in the face. After the slap, Spears went to her table, and Smith followed to apologize, claiming he didn’t immediately recognize who she was.
It’s unclear if Asghari was also hit. Neither he nor his famous wife have commented on the assault publicly. The Spurs and Wembanyama are also remaining tightlipped on the matter.
