Britney Spears’ return flight from a Mexican getaway took a turn after she was reportedly reprimanded for lighting a cigarette mid-air.
According to multiple outlets, the 43-year-old pop icon sparked concern when she began smoking while enjoying alcoholic beverages on a private jet traveling from Cabo San Lucas to Los Angeles.
Sources say flight attendants were alarmed by Spears’ “difficult” behavior and requested she extinguish the cigarette, which she complied with. While smoking on private aircraft isn’t illegal per federal law, it typically falls under the discretion of the plane’s owner.
Authorities were allegedly waiting when the plane touched down at LAX, where Spears was issued a warning and then released. However, LAX officials told Page Six they did not respond to the incident and that a customs employee may have delivered the caution instead. Jet operator JSX said, “We have no comment regarding the alleged events described by TMZ.”
Spears, who has long been an avid smoker, has not publicly addressed the situation. Her reps also did not respond to requests for comment.
The incident comes amid a wave of celebratory social media posts from the singer, who recently vacationed in Mexico following her breakup with Paul Richard Soliz. Spears’ trip included dancing videos and beachside bikini snapshots, a clear sign she’s been embracing her independence.
