Britney Spears, the enduring pop icon, has officially ended her conservatorship battle, achieving full freedom as confirmed by her lawyer. At 42, Spears has settled the lengthy legal struggle against her 71-year-old estranged father, Jamie Spears, ensuring that no further court appearances or legal wrangles will interrupt her life.
Mathew Rosengart, Spears’ attorney, shared with Page Six, “Representing, protecting, and defending Britney has been an honor and a privilege. Ms. Spears is not only an icon but a brilliant and brave artist whose influence is both historic and epic.” He added, “The conservatorship officially ended back in November 2021, but now her long-cherished wish for true freedom is finally fulfilled. She no longer needs to be entangled in any court proceedings or legal matters concerning this case… Britney won when the court suspended her father and again when her fundamental rights and civil liberties were fully restored.”
While the conservatorship ceased in 2021, Spears’ journey towards this moment began in 2008 amid a public battle with mental health issues, with her father Jamie appointed to manage her personal and financial affairs. Her plight resonated worldwide, amplified by the #FreeBritney movement. The turning point came during a poignant testimony in June 2021, where Spears recounted the severe impacts of the conservatorship on her personal autonomy and well-being. She expressed her deep trauma and desire for freedom, including the right to make personal decisions about marriage and family without restrictions.
Celebrating her newfound freedom, Spears took to Instagram with a post showing a bottle of wine, captioning it, “Eventually you will come to understand that love heals everything and that is all there is… and REAL wine feels extremely nice as well 🍷 !!! Psss first time with real wine 🍷 Jesus fucking Christ !!!”
According to insiders, although prepared for trial, Rosengart proceeded based on Spears’ wishes, leading to a settlement that has left the pop superstar “thrilled” and eager to put her past challenges behind her. Despite the hefty legal fees, including those for her father covered by Spears, she remains content with the outcome, finally closing this chapter of her life.
