Brittney Griner is experiencing the lowest moment in her life following the 9-year sentencing the Russian courts gave her.
Her wife, Cherelle Griner, has said that the basketball player told her, “I feel like my life just doesn’t matter.”
While speaking with Gayle King this week about her wife’s condition, Cherelle said she had never seen her wife fall to such a low point.
“BG’s at her absolute weakest moment in life right now,” Cherelle said. “She’s very afraid about being left and forgotten in Russia. Or just completely used to the point of her detriment.”After being accused of smuggling hashish oil to a Moscow airport in her luggage, Brittney was detained in February. She later admitted to the crime, and in August, she received a nine-year prison term. She is contesting the decision, but a hearing later this month will likely not work out in her favor.
Cherelle has said that the last time they spoke, she could see that her wife was in severe distress.
“It was the most disturbing phone call I had ever experienced,” Cherelle said. “And I’ve known BG for 11 years. So I’m like, that was the most disturbing conversation.”According to Cherelle, Brittney has told her things like, “My life just don’t even matter no more,” and, “Am I just nothing?”Additionally, she is concerned that Brittney will be transferred to a labor camp following her appeal hearing on Oct 25.“My brain can’t even fathom it,” she said.
