Nick Cordero, a broadway actor, had his right leg amputated due to COVID-19 related complications.
Cordero’s wife, Amanda Kloots, says via her Instagram story on Saturday that Cordero spent 18 days in the intensive care unit sick with the COVID-19.
Kloots revealed the blood thinners did initially help ease some of the blood clots in Cordero’s leg but were starting to cause issues with his blood pressure, which lead to internal bleeding in his intestines.
“We took him off the blood thinners, but that again was going to cause the clotting in the right leg,” Kloots shared. “So, the right leg will be amputated today.”
After Cordero’s surgery, Kloots updated the fans on Cordero’s status, ”I just got a call from the surgeon, he made it through the surgery which is really big because obviously, his body is pretty weak,” Kloots said on her Instagram story. ”Hopefully, he will relax and rest, but good news.”
Cordero’s, 41, has been dealing with health issues since he first entered the ICU on March 31 after being diagnosed with pneumonia.
Cordero’s tested negative twice before testing positive for COVID-19 on the third test.
Kloots, who shares a 10-month-old son with Cordero, added, “I’m told the fact that he made it through the surgery is a win. We are taking any and all wins right now.”
