Brooke Bailey sat down with Vanessa Veasley to catch up on her life post-Basketball Wives LA. As you know, Brooke decided not to return this season and instead, wanted to take her life in a different direction. In this in depth interview she talks life after Basketball Wives LA, her opinion on the current season and her new business venture, My Life Cleanse.
Interview By Vanessa Veasley
Vanessa Veasley: Does this ever get old to you? Keeping certain details of your life transparent that would really be no one’s business had you chosen a different path?
Brooke Bailey: Sharing my life never gets old for me. I’ve learned how to keep the most important people and situations in my life private, but I when I chose a career in entertainment I understood that I’d have to be open with my fans about the good and not so good.
VV: Were you fired from basketball wives? Did any of the current or past cast members play a part in you not returning?
BB: None of the cast members had the authority to fire me or any other cast member. That has been one of the biggest rumors I’ve heard.[laughing] It was a personal decision. That wasn’t the show for me or my life. People forget it wasn’t the first reality show or TV show that I’ve starred in. My experience with filming “Candy Girls” on E! was much more my style. I don’t like to be goaded into fighting or feel miserable going to work.
VV: Was it the cast that caused the misery? Or the production team?
BB: The cast caused my misery. The producers stoked the fire… And I guess that’s what they’re supposed to do. I’m not a naturally confrontational person; or the type of person that can’t stand to see others shine. Misery and selfishness are however some of my former cast members dominant traits.
VV: Do you think you were shown in an honest light? How close was VH1’s Brooke Bailey to the real thing?
BB: I don’t feel like I was given the opportunity to show who I am. I felt like I was a puppet in a way. I gave the audience me but it was redacted into what producers felt like I should be. Do I always I have a temper? No. When I’m pissed or feel backed into a corner do I blackout? Yes. It really takes a lot to get me that upset, though. BBWLA only showed a very small percent of who I am. I’m sensitive. I have a big heart, and I am a great daughter, mother. I’m a great friend.
VV: Have you had a chance to check out the new season? What do you think of it?
BB: Ummm… Sure. I think it just reaffirmed my decision to opt out. They have some new ladies with compelling stories, but the focus once again only on the awkward “Are you my friend?” conversations and forced altercations about absolutely nothing.
VV: Do you know any of the new girls? Is editing being kind to them?
BB: I know Sundy. She’s cool in real life and has more of a live and let live type of personality. I’ve also met Jackie’s daughter Chantel. She’s attended one of my events. She immediately struck me as a very bright and positive, business driven young lady. I can’t stand when men try to downplay inappropriate behavior by putting down another woman’s looks to make their wifey feel better… Especially when she technically isn’t even the “other woman” or trying to be. Men are messy. Letting them pit us against each other to cloud the truth is the oldest trick in the book.
VV: Who do you think won the Draya vs. Sundy smackdown?
BB: From what I saw I don’t think either won “on screen”. I’m sure the raw footage tells a different story. I also saw Malaysia sucker punch Sundy in the eye during Draya & Sundy’s scuffle… And I’m not surprised. That’s what suckas do!
VV: Welp! Do you think it would’ve gone down differently had you been there?
BB: If I was there Sundy wouldn’t have gotten sucker punched. That’s a coward move. I will say Draya seems a lot more willing to stick up for herself this season. It’s admirable. We’re all flawed. We all have a past. She’s grown and made the most of her platform, so it has to be exhausting defending a life she’s no longer about. Time for people to let her live.
VV: Are you still modeling?
BB: Yes. I’m still modeling. I don’t think that will ever not be a part of my life. As long as my fans request me and I’m inspired to be in front of the camera, I don’t see the point in turning my back on that revenue stream. That’s what gave them the Brooke Bailey they know and love.
VV: Any new magazines or videos we should be looking out for?
BB: I just made an appearance with PTAF (Pretty Taking All Fades) music video, “Boss Ass Bitch” I wanted to support those girls since they’re Los Angeles natives like myself. I also have a SHOW Magazine Black Lingerie cover and pictorial dropping this April. This spread is different from the ones I’ve done in the past.
VV: How so?
BB: Well, I definitely have more clothes on than usual. [laughs] But it’s still very sexy. Edgy.
VV: On BBWLA, you were casually dating a young NBA player. But we both know all too well that when you are in this industry just standing next to a guy for five seconds too long at an event or in a photo will have you two romantically linked. What is the silliest false dating rumor that you’ve seen about yourself?
BB: I was at an event with Cee-Lo. We took a picture and next thing I know I caught a bullet from the blogs. All I could do was laugh. We work with the same publicist so you’ll see us at the same events or in pictures. But, dating? That was a new level of reaching.
VV: Any dating rumor you care to confirm?
BB: Nope! [grinning]
VV: What’s your current relationship status?
BB: I’m single and dating. I’m ready for a committed relationship, but I’m not trying to force anything either. I’ve been married twice so I’m not rushing to get married again until I find the right man to build with. You know, someone who’s not threatened by my career or success. A real partner.
VV: As a full-time mother of three, how do you balance a dating life with home life?
BB: I wonder how I do it sometimes. Family always comes first. I’m a mother, but I’m also a woman. When I’m interested in someone I definitely make time for them without anyone at home or work suffering. I’m careful not to spread myself too thin.
VV: Exactly one year ago in an interview for VibeVixen I asked you if there were any Brooke Bailey products in the works and you replied:
“…if I ever team up with another
company, or put out my own
products, I want to do it right and
only endorse or create products
that I’d religiously use myself.”
Fast forward to today I see you’re promoting My Life Cleanse. What is this product? Are you using it and were you involved in creating it?
BB: I stand by that statement. My Life Cleanse is a 10 day detox system. It’s all natural and herbal based. It’s safe, highly effective, and free of harsh stimulants. My capsules are vegan and gluten free. I was involved 100% from beginning to the end in formulating my products with a team of top herbalists. I’ve been detoxing at least twice a year for the last decade of my life so I wanted to make sure this was perfect before I introduced it to the public. I use my products. I’ve used them every step of the way. I’ve totally been my own Guinea pig. [laughing]
VV: Why should the average person cleanse?
BB: Well, the human body is like a sponge. We take in a ridiculous amount of toxins on a daily basis. They come from processed foods, household cleaning supplies, beauty products, pesticides, municipal water, cigarette smoke, and more. Through detoxing, you assist your body to do what it’s meant to do; cleanse itself, heal and achieve balance.
VV: So what are the benefits of the My Life Cleanse specifically?
BB: My Life Cleanse detoxes the colon, liver, lungs, lymphatic system and kidneys. It helps your body expel waste, mucus, intestinal plaque, parasites, and worms. A lot of us go around with a build up of these things in our bodies not knowing they can cause or magnify our infections, headaches, fatigue, digestion problems, and other chronic conditions. The benefits are an improved immune system, an increased metabolism, better digestion, and increased energy.
VV: So it’s not about weight loss?
BB: Sure, many of the practitioners of my cleanse so far have reported significant weight loss, about 8-17lbs over 10 days on average. The amount is going to vary depending on an individual person’s state of wellness before starting and how strictly they adhere to the raw food diet suggestion in my included booklet.
VV: Are there any other products in the works?
BB: Yes. I recently launched three additional My Life products. The first is my Hair, Skin & Nail Vitamin. It helps to bring hair back to life by promoting growth and fullness while nourishing the skin and nails. I also introduced Female Hormonal. It’s a potent vitamin that naturally balances your levels of estrogen and progesterone. My third (and personal favorite) product is my Passion Formula. It helps increase energy, stamina, and enhances the libido. All three products like my cleanse are herbal based and all natural.
VV: Wait. The last one sounds like an herbal Viagra for women?
BB: [Laughing] Better. It stimulates vaginal lubrication. It increases circulation to the brain and genitalia heightening sensitivity. But it also nourishes and strengthens the vaginal PC muscle group, reproductive and endocrine systems. Every woman over 25 should add it to their arsenal.
VV: You have naturally long hair though. You’re not saying folks can achieve the condition of your hair/skin through vitamins and herbs are you?
BB: Ok. Yes. My hair is naturally long. That has nothing to do with the condition it has been in. I’ve had it damaged from the over use of heat. I taught myself how to bring my hair back to life. It’s much fuller and it’s healthy. Who cares about length if it’s thin and damaged? Genes don’t mean much if you have poor nutrition and maintenance. My products aim to to take what God Blessed you with and make it better.
VV: Is there anyone you look up to in this alternative health industry? Who inspires you health wise in general?
BB: I really admire the work that Dr. Sebi has put in to educate people about holistic healing. I’ve tried different things holistic and modern medicine & there is a huge difference. Other than him, when I see anyone that takes really good care of their bodies or try to help educate others. I get inspired.
VV: Tell everyone where they can keep up with you and find your products.
BB: My fans can keep up with my personal journey on my Instagram:
