The Milwaukee Bucks and San Antonio Spurs Gave Us a Classic Last Night [Video]

During the pre-draft process, no one compared Victor Wembenyamba to Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, when people discussed his potential, they mentioned Giannis as a comparison. Like Giannis, Victor also came from overseas and went from being a very slender 6’9″ and 170 pounds to a seven-foot monster weighing 240 pounds. Giannis has been dominating the league for the past few years, and people believe that Victor has the same potential.

It is believed by some that Wemby may not develop the same level of strength as Giannis. However, if he manages to gain as much muscle as Giannis, he has the potential to become the greatest basketball player ever. This is not an exaggeration, as demonstrated by the remarkable performance of both players in their recent game. Giannis scored 44 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, made seven assists, two steals, and blocked a shot.

Milwaukee Bucks head coach Adrian Griffin had the perfect explanation at the end of this game.

“That was a fun game to coach, a fun game to watch. Two of the most unique, talented big men. I use that loosely because they’re very versatile players. Man, that was fun. I thought Wemby was great, I thought Giannis was phenomenal.”

The last three minutes of the game was what were worth the watch. The two athletes were going at it, trying to close the game.

Giannis had back-to-back three-pointers after taking a charge on the rookie. Wemby responded with a block on Damian Lillard and a three-pointer himself to tie the game with 53 seconds left. However, Wemby’s biggest highlight from the game came at the end of the fourth quarter when he blocked Antetokounmpo and gave his team a chance to tie it. Instead of taking a three-pointer, he passed the ball to Tre Jones, who missed the shot. Victor finished the game with 27 points, nine rebounds, one assist, one steal, and five blocks. He left a hell of an impression on Giannis, too.

“He’s an unbelievable talent,” Antetokounmpo told the media after the game. “Can score anytime he wants. Plays the right way. Plays to win. It was great playing against him.”

Wemby’s two best plays of the game, one showed his handle and his creativity. Taking the ball the length of the court, wrapping the ball behind his back to avoid the Damian Lillard steal while DUNKING the ball on 7-foot center Brook Lopez. His energy from this play and his off-the-backboard alley-oop in the second quarter propelled his team’s confidence.

The five-win Spurs have not had many games where they played this well. With five wins on the season, losses like this are always encouraging. Can’t win them all, however, if you can keep up, you are moving in the right direction.
