Bun B Opens Up in Court About Traumatic Home Invasion and Its Impact on Wife Queenie [Video]

Bun B opened up in court Thursday, sharing the harrowing details of a home invasion that shook him and his wife, Queenie, to their core back in April 2019.

The trial has taken five years to reach this point, with Bun B, whose real name is Bernard Freeman, speaking during the sentencing hearing for Demonte Jackson, who pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery.

Bun B recalled how Queenie, who had just completed therapy for anxiety, answered the door thinking it was an Amazon delivery. Instead, it was Jackson, masked and armed, who forced his way inside, holding a gun to her head, local station ABC 13 reports.

Bun B, upstairs at the time, heard Queenie’s desperate screams: “Just take the car! Just take the car!” Jackson held a gun to her head.

“I’ve never heard that kind of terror in my wife’s voice,” Bun B said, visibly emotional. Despite Queenie’s pleas not to confront Jackson, Bun B grabbed his gun and fired at Jackson, who was attempting to steal their car. The two men ended up wrestling on the ground before Jackson fled.

The trauma was so severe that Queenie never returned to their home, even needing to be blindfolded to pack her belongings. Bun B emphasized that the invasion continues to affect Queenie, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, triggering severe anxiety whenever she saw strangers resembling Jackson.

“This happened to her from a Black man with a mask on and dreadlocks,” Bun B said. “She didn’t want to feel that against all Black men. Only one Black man had done this to her, but it was the signs constantly triggering her, retraumatizing her over and over again.”

The case was delayed due to Jackson’s mental health issues. His attorney, Letitia Quinones, argued that he needs mental health support rather than prison time. In court, the defense did not cross-examine Bun B, and Jackson showed no reaction. Queenie was also expected to testify, sharing her side of the deeply traumatic experience.
