Burna Boy Doesn’t Mind Toni Braxton Receiving 60% of Royalties from His Record, “Last Last” [Video]

Toni Braxton is cashing in on Burna Boy’s record, “Last Last,” earning 60% of royalties from the single. 

The Afrobeats superstar sat down with Million Dollaz Worth Of Game, where he discussed the popular song, which samples Braxton’s 2000 certified gold hit, “He Wasn’t Man Enough.” The record peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for four weeks and number two on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks. Burna Boy says he was eager to create something new with the tune and knew his producer could make it happen.

“I just wanted to use that sample, and I knew Chopsticks could do something crazy with it,” he explained. Burna continued, “But she is taking 60% of the sh**.” He appeared unphased by the royalties that Braxton gets from the record and hopes she’ll one day come to one of his shows.

Though Burna revealed the sample was his idea and had no issue with Braxton taking a hefty cut, the revelation launched a debate on social media regarding whether or not this was a good idea.

“Last Last” will appear on Burna Boy’s highly anticipated album, “Love, Damini,” which will be released on July 9th. The project was originally slated to debut on July 2nd. He has referred to the album as a “personal body of work,” highlighting trials, tribulations, and growth. This week, he will kick off a tour of the same name in Europe before making his way to the United States.
