A North Carolina school bus driver is in hot water after swabbing children’s mouths and paying them $5.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District, nearly a dozen children had their mouths swabbed. The bus driver also took down the student’s personal information, though it is unclear what she was doing with it. Testing the children was not approved by the school board, and the method in which the driver was testing them was not an accurate COVID-19 testing method.
School board member Rhonda Cheek says she learned about the odd incidents on Monday and wants to get to the bottom of what the swabs were being used for.
“Nothing about this makes sense to me as a normal protocol. To me, it doesn’t sound like COVID-19 tests. I’ve had enough over the last year. It doesn’t even sound like COVID tests,” Cheek stated.
The unidentified woman has been suspended as the investigation trucks along, which could cover multiple routes and reveal many more students. Any families who believe that their children were involuntarily tested are encouraged to call the school board or contact the principal at their child’s school within the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District.
