On Monday, Cain Velasquez, 39, a mixed martial artist from the South Bay, was arrested on attempted murder charges.
According to multiple sources and court records, Velasquez shot at a man recently charged with molesting one of his family members.
The incident took place off Monterey Highway and Bailey Avenue on the southern edges of San Jose, CA where police say the shots ended up wounded the defendant’s stepfather.
That evening, the former two-time UFC heavyweight champion was charged for attempted murder and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail and is currently being held without bond.
According to court documents, the sequence of events began last week after one of Velasquez’s relatives claimed they were assaulted by a man at a home daycare in San Martin.
Due to the child’s age and sexual abuse allegations, reports are withholding the child‘s name and exact relationship to Velasquez.
According to a criminal complaint, the accused man, 43-year-old Harry Eugene Goularte, lives at the home that hosts a daycare business run by his mother. Goularte was charged with one felony count of a lewd and lascivious act with a minor.
On Friday, Goularte was arraigned and a judge granted him supervised release, over objections from the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.
Police said that the stepfather was shot once and he will survive. No further details about the shooting were released.
