A civil lawsuit filed by grassroots racial justice activists against a foundation overseeing the charitable endowment of the Black Lives Matter movement has been dismissed by a California judge.
Black Lives Matter Grassroots Inc., a group of activists, charged Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation Inc. with soliciting donations using the efforts of local BLM chapters and then scamming the public while excluding activists from decision-making.
Judge Stephanie Bowick of the Los Angeles County Superior Court sided with the foundation’s legal counsel and dismissed the case brought by local BLM activists.
The foundation’s lawyers successfully argued that the activists failed to provide substantial evidence to support their claims of entitlement to the raised funds or allegations of embezzlement by the foundation’s leaders for illicit purposes.
“As always, the work of Black Lives Matter continues, regardless of the court ruling,” Abdullah said in a statement.
Following the court’s ruling, the BLM Foundation declared that it will proceed with its plans.
“We have stayed true to our principles, philanthropic duties, and organizational focus despite countless blatant fabrications, misrepresentations, and innuendos of misdeeds lodged against us,” the foundation said in a released statement.
