A California father has been charged with killing his four children and his mother-in-law.
Germarcus Lamar David was charged on Tuesday with five counts of murder and three counts of assault on a child, causing death. Authorities say that he fatally shot his four children, 11-year-old Namyiah, 7-year-old Germarcus Jr., 2-year-old Kayden, 1-year-old Noah, and their grandmother, 51-year-old Erika England, who was there on Sunday babysitting. When the children’s mother returned to the home on the 3500 block of Garnet Lane in Lancaster, she found all five bodies and called 911. Neighbors reported seeing the woman outside screaming, “my babies are gone! They’re all dead!”
Los Angeles County authorities said that they do not have any record of domestic incidents at the home and did not have a motive yet as to why the 29-year-old man murdered his children and England. He turned himself into police moments after they arrived. He remains in jail on a $2 million bond. David was licensed to carry a weapon through his job as a security guard, though the permit expired in August 2020.
“No family should endure this type of tragedy, especially when the alleged perpetrator was responsible for their protection,” L.A. County District Attorney George Gascon said in a statement.
Family friend Waki Jones called David’s actions “cowardly.”
