Authorities are on the hunt for a dangerous California man who they say murdered his ex-girlfriend and her daughter while stopped at a red light.
Donte Lamont Brown, 41, is accused of fatally shooting Tameeka “La’von” Hall, 45, and her daughter Ma’Laysia Martin, 22, in Compton on Tuesday, April 1st. Brown, Hall’s estranged boyfriend, is still at large and considered armed and dangerous, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LACSD).
The tragic incident occurred when Brown allegedly drove up next to Hall and Martin while they were stopped at a red light at Caldwell Street and South Central Avenue. Brown reportedly fired shots into their vehicle, striking both victims. Hall managed to exit the driver’s side but collapsed on the ground, while Martin was found in the passenger seat, both suffering from gunshot wounds. The LACSD responded at 7:05 p.m., and both victims were later pronounced dead by the Compton Fire Department.
Witnesses expressed their heartbreak. “Just to come out here to see a mother and a daughter, that’s really heartbreaking,” said Debbie Shaw.
“It’s just very tragic for our community,” added Compton City Councilman Jonathan Bowers. A neighbor, Ronnie, also expressed her sorrow, calling the crime “really ridiculous” and urged Brown to turn himself in.
A GoFundMe has been set up by Hall’s family to cover funeral expenses, remembering her as a dedicated school district employee and a nurturing mother to the talented Ma’Laysia.
