A Southern California mother of five has passed away from COVID-19, and her husband is still in the hospital with the virus.
On Thursday, Davy Macias passed away after battling COVID-19 in the hospital. She was a registered nurse and mother of five. Her husband, Daniel, has also been hospitalized since the beginning of August. Macias has been taking care of patients since the start of the pandemic.
“She touched everybody’s life. When she’s there, she’s an advocate for all of her patients. It’s always for the benefit of the patient and the babies. She’s a great and an amazing woman,” said her sister, Vandana Serey.
Macias, who was seven months pregnant, delivered her new baby after being intubated. At the time, her husband was in critical condition. Macias was not vaccinated; there are no details in whether her husband received the COVID-19 vaccine.
“He was trying to breathe and said, if anyone is not vaccinated, I suggest you do now,” said Serey said.
The couple’s family members have put together a GoFundMe to help support the family during this time.
