A Ranchos Palos Verdes mother of three who collapsed after suffering a massive heart attack following the Los Angeles Marathon passed away on Tuesday.
According to race organizers, Trisha Paddock was running the half marathon last weekend to raise funds for the Asian American Drug Abuse Program. The charity is a non-profit that provides substance abuse services to Asian-Pacific and other underserved communities.
Paddocks’ husband, Ryan, waited for her at the finish line. “She sent me a message and said, ‘I only got one more mile to go,'” he told NBC Los Angeles. He described Paddock as an avid runner.
According to Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Erik Scott Paddock suffered “a medical complaint which escalated to a witnessed cardiac arrest around 12:10 p.m. Paddock was treated on the scene by medical personnel and then transported to a hospital.
“This is a devastating loss, and our deepest sympathies go out to her family and loved ones,” race organizers said in a statement. “We would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to all the first responders, paramedics, and medical personnel who were immediately on the scene.”
A GoFundMe created for the family has exceeded its $40,000 goal, raising more than $67,000 as of Saturday.
