Thanks to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, many court appearances have gone virtual; one California plastic surgeon took it too far. In the cringe-inducing video, you can clearly see him appearing in traffic court from the operating room. One of his patients was actively undergoing a surgical procedure just outside the frame of view.
According to the Sacramento Bee, Scott Green appeared before Sacramento Superior Court Commissioner Gary Link in his surgical scrubs and a mask, but the judge was less than pleased.
“So unless I’m mistaken, I’m seeing a defendant that’s in the middle of an operating room appearing to be actively engaged in providing services to a patient. Is that correct, Mr. Green? Or should I say, Dr. Green?” Link asked the doctor in the video. He made sure the doctor was aware that traffic trials are open to the public by law and were being openly live-streamed and posted to YouTube.
Dr. Green didn’t seem bothered that the trial was being live-streamed. Still, despite the surgeon’s reassurance that another surgeon was operating on the patient while he appeared in court, the judge decided to shut it down. He allowed Dr. Green to appear at a later date and set a trial date in March.
“I do not feel comfortable for the welfare of a patient if you’re in the process of operating, that I would put on a trial notwithstanding the fact the officer is here today,” Link said.
According to the New York Post, the Medical Board of California is aware of the incident and will investigate.
