Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has a lot to be happy about. Just two weeks ago, he survived a serious car accident and escaped with non life-threatening injuries. After only missing one week of football due to back fractures caused by the accident, he was back in action on Sunday and led the Panthers to a 17-13 victory over the Cleveland Browns. Now he is just one game away from winning the NFC South division and heading into the playoffs. One thing he was not happy about, however, was the fact that some Panthers fans cheered when Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel got injured during Sunday’s game. Late in the second quarter, Manziel went down with a hamstring injury after being tackled hard by Panthers’ Luke Kuechly and Colin Jones. As Manziel was on the ground hurt, the cheers from Panthers fans could be heard throughout the stadium.
“The only thing I can say is it was sad to see the crowd’s response when he was getting hurt, man,” Cam said. “I just think it was classless at that time. Anytime a person is hurt, you don’t celebrate. I’ve had that done in my career. It takes the integrity out of the game.”
It is never a good look when fans celebrate something bad happening to a player of the opposing team and it reflects poorly on the team as a whole. Glad Cam put them in check.
